Jonah 2

1And Yahweh appointed a great fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

2Then Jonah prayed to Yahweh his God from the belly of the fish.

3And he said, “I called to Yahweh out of my distress, and he answered me. From the belly of Sheol I cried out; you heard my voice.”

4You cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the current surrounded me; all your breakers and your waves passed over me.

5And I said, ‘I have been driven out from before your eyes; yet I will again look toward your holy temple.’

6Waters closed in around me to my very life; the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head.

7I went down to the roots of the mountains; the earth with its bars was around me forever, but you brought up my life from the pit, O Yahweh my God.

8When my life was fainting away within me, I remembered Yahweh, and my prayer came to you, into your holy temple.

9Those who cling to worthless idols forsake their own mercy.

10But as for me, with the voice of thanksgiving I will sacrifice to you; what I have vowed I will pay. Salvation belongs to Yahweh.

11Then Yahweh spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto the dry land.
