Joshua 15

1And the lot for the tribe of the sons of Judah, according to their clans, was to the border of Edom, to the wilderness of Zin, southward, at the farthest south.

2Their southern border was from the end of the Salt Sea, from the tongue that faces southward.

3Then it went out southward to the ascent of Akrabbim, crossed over to Zin, went up from the south to Kadesh-barnea, crossed over Hezron, went up to Addar, and turned toward Karka.

4Then it passed on to Azmon, and went out to the Brook of Egypt; and the boundary ended at the sea. This shall be your southern boundary.

5And the eastern border was the Salt Sea, as far as the mouth of the Jordan. And the border on the north side was from the tongue of the sea, from the mouth of the Jordan.

6Then the border went up to Beth-hoglah, and passed north of Beth-arabah; and the border went up to the stone of Bohan son of Reuben.

7And the border went up to Debir from the Valley of Achor, and turned northward toward Gilgal, which is opposite the Ascent of Adummim, which is south of the wadi. Then the border passed on to the waters of En-shemesh, and its end was at En-rogel.

8Then the border went up by the Valley of Ben-hinnom to the slope of the Jebusite on the south (that is, Jerusalem), and the border went up to the top of the mountain that lies west of the Valley of Hinnom, at the northern end of the Valley of Rephaim.

9Then the border curved from the top of the mountain to the spring of the waters of Nephtoah, and went out to the cities of Mount Ephron; then the border curved to Baalah (that is, Kiriath-jearim).

10Then the border turned from Baalah westward to Mount Seir, passed along to the northern slope of Mount Jearim (that is, Chesalon), went down to Beth-shemesh, and passed on to Timnah.

11Then the border went out to the shoulder of Ekron northward, and the border bent toward Shikkeron, and passed over Mount Baalah, and went out to Jabneel; and the ends of the border were at the sea.

12And the western border was the Great Sea as a border. This was the border of the sons of Judah all around, by their clans.

13And to Caleb son of Jephunneh he gave a portion among the sons of Judah, according to the command of Yahweh to Joshua: Kiriath-arba (Arba was the father of Anak), that is, Hebron.

14And Caleb drove out from there the three sons of Anak: Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak.

15From there he went up against the inhabitants of Debir. (Formerly the name of Debir was Kiriath-sepher.)

16And Caleb said, “Whoever strikes Kiriath-sepher and captures it, I will give him Achsah my daughter as a wife.”

17Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb’s brother, captured it, and he gave him his daughter Achsah as a wife.

18And when she came, she urged him to ask her father for a field. Then she got down from the donkey, and Caleb said to her, “What do you want?”

19She said, “Please give me a blessing, since you have given me the land of the Negev; give me also springs of water.” So he gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.

20This was the inheritance of the tribe of the sons of Judah according to their clans.

21And the cities at the extremity of the tribe of the sons of Judah, toward the border of Edom in the Negev, were Kabzeel, Eder, and Jagur.

22Kinah, Dimonah, and Adadah.

23Kedesh, Hazor, and Ithnan.

24Ziph, Telem, and Bealoth.

25and Hazor-hadattah, and Kerioth-hezron (that is, Hazor),

26Amam, Shema, and Moladah.

27Hazar-gaddah, Heshmon, and Beth-pelet.

28Hazar-shual, Beersheba, and Bizjothjah.

29Baalah, Iyyim, and Ezem.

30Eltolad, Kesil, and Hormah.

31Ziklag, Madmannah, and Sansannah.

32and Lebaoth, Shilhim, Ain, and Rimmon—twenty-nine cities in all, with their villages.

33In the lowland: Eshtaol, Zorah, and Ashnah.

34Zanoah, En-gannim, Tappuah, and Enam.

35Jarmuth, Adullam, Socoh, and Azekah.

36and Shaaraim, and Adithaim, and Gederah, and Gederothaim: fourteen cities with their villages.

37Zenan, Hadashah, and Migdal-gad.

38Dilean, Mizpeh, and Joktheel.

39Lachish, Bozkath, and Eglon.

40Kabbon, Lahmas, and Kithlish.

41and Gederoth, Beth-dagon, Naamah, and Makkedah: sixteen cities with their villages.

42Libnah, Ether, and Ashan.

43And Iphtah, and Ashnah, and Nezib.

44Keilah, Achzib, and Mareshah: nine cities with their villages.

45Ekron, with its towns and its villages.

46from Ekron westward, all that is beside Ashdod, and their villages.

47Ashdod, its daughter towns and its villages; Gaza, its daughter towns and its villages; as far as the Brook of Egypt, and the Great Sea, which is its boundary.

48In the hill country: Shamir, Jattir, and Socoh.

49and Dannah, and Kiriath-sannah (that is, Debir),

50Anab, Eshtemoh, and Anim.

51Goshen, Holon, and Giloh: eleven cities with their villages.

52Arab, Rumah, and Eshan.

53and Janim, and Beth-tappuah, and Aphekah;

54Humtah, Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), and Zior: nine cities with their settlements.

55Maon, Carmel, Ziph, and Juttah.

56Jezreel, Jokdeam, and Zanoah.

57Hak-kain, Gibeah, and Timnah: ten cities with their settlements.

58Halhul, Beth-zur, and Gedor.

59and Maarath, and Beth-anoth, and Eltekon: six cities with their villages.

60Kiriath-baal (that is, Kiriath-jearim), and Rabbah: two cities with their settlements.

61In the wilderness: Beth-arabah, Middin, and Secacah.

62and Nibshan, the City of Salt, and En-gedi: six cities with their settlements.

63But the sons of Judah could not dispossess the Jebusites, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so the Jebusites have lived with the sons of Judah in Jerusalem to this day.
