Leviticus 13

Priests Examine Skin Diseases

Open in the reader →

And Yahweh spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,

When a man has on the skin of his body a swelling, or a scab, or a bright spot, and it becomes on the skin of his body an infection of skin disease, then he shall be brought to Aaron the priest, or to one of his sons the priests.

And the priest shall examine the diseased spot on the skin of the body, and if the hair in the spot has turned white and the appearance of the spot is deeper than the skin of his body, it is a diseased spot of skin disease; when the priest has examined him, he shall pronounce him unclean.

But if the bright spot is white in the skin of his flesh, and its appearance is not deeper than the skin, and its hair has not turned white, then the priest shall isolate the affected area for seven days.

And the priest shall examine him on the seventh day, and behold, if the spot has remained unchanged in his sight and the spot has not spread in the skin, then the priest shall isolate him for seven days a second time.

Then the priest shall examine him again on the seventh day, and if the infection has faded and the infection has not spread in the skin, the priest shall pronounce him clean; it is a scaly eruption. He shall wash his clothes and be clean.

But if the scaly eruption indeed spreads on the skin after he has shown himself to the priest for his cleansing, then he shall appear before the priest a second time.

And the priest shall examine him, and behold, if the scaly eruption has spread on the skin, the priest shall pronounce him unclean; it is leprosy.

When an infection of leprosy is in a person, then he shall be brought to the priest.

and the priest examines him, and behold, there is a white swelling in the skin, and it has turned the hair white, and there is raw flesh in the swelling,

it is a chronic skin disease in the skin of his body, and the priest shall pronounce him unclean; he shall not isolate him, for he is unclean.

And if the skin disease breaks out all over the skin, and the skin disease covers all the skin of the affected person from his head to his feet, as far as the priest can see,

and the priest examines him, and behold, the skin disease has covered all his flesh, then he shall pronounce the affected person clean; all of it has turned white; he is clean.

But on the day living flesh appears in it, he shall be unclean.

When the priest sees the raw flesh, he shall pronounce him unclean. The raw flesh is unclean; it is a skin disease.

Or if the raw flesh turns back and becomes white, then he shall come to the priest.

And the priest shall examine it, and behold, the diseased spot has turned white; then the priest shall pronounce the spot clean; it is clean.

And when the body has a boil in its skin, and it heals,

and in the place of the boil there develops a white swelling or a reddish-white bright spot, then it shall be shown to the priest.

And the priest shall examine it, and behold, its appearance is deeper than the skin, and its hair has turned white; then the priest shall pronounce him unclean. It is an outbreak of leprosy; it has broken out in the boil.

But if the priest examines it, and behold, there is no white hair in it, and it is not deeper than the skin, but it is dim, then the priest shall isolate him for seven days.

But if it does spread in the skin, the priest shall pronounce him unclean; it is an infection.

But if the bright spot remains in its place and has not spread, it is the scar of the boil, and the priest shall pronounce him clean.

Or if the body has on its skin a burn from fire, and the raw flesh of the burn becomes a bright spot, reddish-white or white,

And the priest shall examine it, and behold, the hair in the bright spot has turned white and its appearance is deeper than the skin, it is a skin disease that has broken out in the burn scar; and the priest shall pronounce him unclean. It is an infection of skin disease.

But if the priest examines it, and behold, there is no white hair in the bright spot, and it is not deeper than the skin, but it is faded, then the priest shall isolate him seven days.

And the priest shall examine him on the seventh day. If it has indeed spread in the skin, the priest shall pronounce him unclean; it is an infection of skin disease.

But if the bright spot remains in its place and has not spread in the skin, and it is faded, it is the swelling from the burn, and the priest shall pronounce him clean, for it is the scar of the burn.

When a man or a woman has an infection on the head or on the beard,

And the priest shall examine the diseased area, and behold, its appearance is deeper than the skin, and in it is thin yellow hair, then the priest shall pronounce him unclean; it is an itch, a skin disease of the head or of the beard.

And if the priest examines the diseased area of the scaly outbreak, and indeed its appearance is not deeper than the skin and there is no black hair in it, then the priest shall isolate the diseased area of the scaly outbreak for seven days.

And the priest shall examine the diseased area on the seventh day, and behold, if the scaly infection has not spread, and there is no yellow hair in it, and the appearance of the scaly infection is not deeper than the skin,

then he shall shave himself, but he shall not shave the scaly spot; and the priest shall isolate the scaly spot for seven days a second time.

Then the priest shall examine the scaly infection on the seventh day, and if the scaly infection has not spread in the skin and its appearance is not deeper than the skin, the priest shall pronounce him clean. He shall wash his clothes and be clean.

But if the scaly eruption does spread in the skin after his cleansing,

And if the priest examines him, and behold, the scaly infection has spread in the skin, the priest need not look for the yellow hair; he is unclean.

But if in his sight the scaly eruption has remained unchanged, and black hair has grown in it, the scaly eruption is healed; he is clean, and the priest shall pronounce him clean.

And if a man or a woman has bright spots on the skin of the body, white bright spots,

and the priest examines, and behold, on the skin of their flesh there are dull white spots, it is a harmless rash that has broken out on the skin; he is clean.

If a man loses the hair of his head, he is bald; he is clean.

And if the front of his head becomes bald, he is bald on the forehead; he is clean.

But if there is on the bald head or on the bald forehead a white-reddish diseased spot, it is a spreading skin disease on his bald head or on his bald forehead.

and the priest examines him, and behold, the swelling of the disease is whitish-red on his bald head or on his bald forehead, like the appearance of a skin disease on the flesh,

He is a leprous man; he is unclean. The priest shall surely pronounce him unclean; his disease is on his head.

As for the one with the skin disease, in whom the infection is, his clothes shall be torn, his head shall be left unkempt, he shall cover his mustache, and he shall cry out, ‘Unclean, unclean!’

All the days that the disease is in him, he shall be unclean. He is unclean. He shall live alone; his dwelling shall be outside the camp.

And if a garment has in it an outbreak of leprosy, in a wool garment or in a linen garment,

or in the warp or in the woof of the linen or of the wool, or in leather, or in any article made of leather—

And if the spot is greenish or reddish in the garment, or in the leather, or in the warp or in the woof, or in any article of leather, it is a diseased spot of skin disease, and it shall be shown to the priest.

And the priest shall examine the diseased area, and he shall isolate the diseased area for seven days.

On the seventh day he shall examine the infection, and if the infection has spread in the garment, or in the warp, or in the woof, or in the leather, in anything for which leather is made for work, the infection is a destructive skin disease; it is unclean.

He shall burn the garment, or the warp or the woof in wool or in linen, or any article of leather in which the infection is, for it is a destructive skin disease; it shall be burned in the fire.

But if the priest examines it, and behold, the infection has not spread in the garment, or in the warp, or in the woof, or in any article of leather,

Then the priest shall command them to wash the thing in which the infection is, and he shall quarantine it for seven days a second time.

Then the priest shall examine it after the diseased area has been washed, and if the diseased area has not changed its appearance and the diseased area has not spread, it is unclean. You shall burn it in the fire; it is a corrosive spot, whether on its worn side or on its bare side.

But if the priest examines it, and behold, the spot has faded after it was washed, then he shall tear it out of the garment, or out of the leather, or out of the warp, or out of the woof.

But if it appears again in the garment, or in the warp, or in the woof, or in any article of leather, it is a spreading outbreak; you shall burn in the fire whatever has the infection in it.

But the garment, or the warp, or the woof, or any article of leather that you wash, and the infection departs from them, shall be washed a second time and be clean.

This is the law for an outbreak of leprous disease in a wool garment or a linen garment, or in the warp or the woof, or in any leather article, for pronouncing it clean or pronouncing it unclean.
