Leviticus 21

1And Yahweh said to Moses, “Speak to the priests, the sons of Aaron, and say to them: None shall make himself unclean for a dead person among his people,”

2except for his close relative who is nearest to him: for his mother, for his father, for his son, for his daughter, and for his brother—

3and for his virgin sister who is near to him, who has not belonged to a man, he may make himself unclean.

4He shall not defile himself as a husband among his people, and so profane himself.

5They shall not make a bald patch on their head, nor shave off the edge of their beard, nor make cuts in their flesh.

6They shall be holy to their God and shall not profane the name of their God, because they present the food offerings of Yahweh, the food of their God; therefore they shall be holy.

7They shall not take a woman who is a prostitute or defiled, and they shall not take a woman divorced from her husband, for he is holy to his God.

8You shall treat him as holy, because he offers the food of your God. He shall be holy to you, for I, Yahweh who sanctify you, am holy.

9And the daughter of a priest, if she profanes herself by prostituting herself, profanes her father; she shall be burned with fire.

10And the high priest, who is greater than his brothers, on whose head the anointing oil has been poured and whose hand has been filled to wear the garments, shall not let his head hang loose, nor shall he tear his garments.

11He shall not go near any dead body; he shall not make himself unclean even for his father or for his mother.

12And he shall not go out from the sanctuary, nor shall he profane the sanctuary of his God, because the consecration of the anointing oil of his God is upon him. I am Yahweh.

13And he shall take a wife in her virginity.

14He shall not take these as wife: a widow, or a divorced woman, or a defiled woman, or a prostitute. Rather, he shall take a virgin from his own people as wife.

15He shall not profane his offspring among his people, for I am Yahweh who sanctifies him.

16And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

17Speak to Aaron, saying: Any man from your offspring throughout their generations who has a defect shall not come near to offer the food of his God.

18For no man who has a defect shall come near: a blind man, or a lame man, or one with a disfigured face, or one with a limb too long.

19or a man who has a broken foot or a broken hand,

20or hunchbacked, or dwarfed, or with a defect in his eye, or with an itch, or with scabs, or with crushed testicles.

21No man from the offspring of Aaron the priest who has a defect shall come near to offer the food offerings of Yahweh. A defect is in him; he shall not come near to offer the bread of his God.

22He may eat the food of his God, from the most holy things and from the holy things.

23However, he shall not go in to the veil or come near the altar, because there is a defect in him, so that he may not profane my sanctuaries; for I am Yahweh who sanctifies them.

24So Moses spoke to Aaron and to his sons and to all the sons of Israel.
