Psalms 107

1Give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.

2Let the redeemed of Yahweh say so, whom he has redeemed from the hand of the foe,

3and gathered them from the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the sea.

4They wandered in the wilderness, in a wasteland; they found no way to an inhabited city.

5Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted within them.

6Then they cried out to Yahweh in their trouble; he delivered them from their distresses.

7He led them by a straight way to an inhabited city.

8Let them give thanks to Yahweh for his steadfast love and for his wondrous deeds for humanity.

9For he satisfies the longing soul and fills the hungry soul with good things.

10Some sat in darkness and deep shadow, prisoners in affliction and irons,

11For they rebelled against the words of God and despised the counsel of the Most High.

12So he humbled their hearts with toil; they stumbled, and there was no one to help.

13Then they cried out to Yahweh in their trouble; he saved them from their distresses.

14He brought them out from darkness and the shadow of death, and he tore apart their bonds.

15Let them give thanks to Yahweh for his steadfast love and for his wondrous deeds for human beings.

16For he shattered the doors of bronze and cut through the bars of iron.

17Fools suffered because of their rebellious way and their iniquities.

18They loathed all food, and they drew near to the gates of death.

19Then they cried out to Yahweh in their trouble; he saved them from their distresses.

20He sent his word and healed them, and delivered them from their pits.

21Let them give thanks to Yahweh for his steadfast love and his wonders for humankind.

22Let them offer thanksgiving sacrifices and recount his works with shouts of joy.

23Those who go down to the sea in ships, doing business on great waters—

24They saw the works of Yahweh and his wonders in the deep.

25For he spoke and raised up a storm wind, and it lifted up its waves.

26They rose up to the heavens; they went down to the depths. Their soul melted away in distress.

27They reel and stagger like a drunkard, and all their wisdom is swallowed up.

28Then they cried out to Yahweh in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distresses.

29He calmed the storm, and their waves were hushed.

30Then they were glad because the waves grew quiet, and he led them to their desired haven.

31Let them give thanks to Yahweh for his steadfast love and for his wondrous deeds for humankind.

32Let them exalt him in the assembly of the people and praise him in the council of the elders.

33He turns rivers into a wilderness, and springs of water into thirsty ground.

34a fruitful land into a salt waste, because of the evil of those who dwell in it.

35He turns a wilderness into a pool of water, and dry land into springs of water.

36There he settled the hungry, and they established a city to live in.

37They sowed fields and planted vineyards, and produced a fruitful harvest.

38He blessed them, and they multiplied greatly; he did not diminish their livestock.

39Then they became few and were brought low by oppression, calamity, and sorrow.

40He pours contempt on nobles and makes them wander in a trackless waste.

41But he sets the needy on high, away from affliction, and makes their families like a flock.

42The upright see and rejoice, and all injustice shuts its mouth.

43Who is wise? Let him heed these things and consider Yahweh’s acts of steadfast love.
