Psalms 58

For the choirmaster: “Do Not Destroy.” Of David. A miktam.

1Do you indeed speak righteousness, O silent ones? Do you judge uprightly, sons of man?

2Indeed, in your hearts you commit injustice; on the earth your hands weigh out violence.

3The wicked are estranged from the womb; they go astray from birth, speaking lies.

4Their venom is like a serpent’s venom, like that of a deaf venomous snake that stops up its ear,

5that does not listen to the sound of charmers, even a skillful caster of spells.

6God, break their teeth in their mouths; shatter the fangs of the young lions, Yahweh.

7Let them melt away like water that runs off; when he aims his arrows, let them be as though cut off.

8Like a snail that melts away as it goes, like a stillborn child that has not seen the sun.

9Before your pots can feel the heat of the thornbush, whether it is green or blazing, he will sweep it away.

10The righteous will rejoice when he sees vengeance; he will wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.

11And people will say, “Surely there is fruit for the righteous; surely there is a God who judges on the earth.”
