Psalms 57

Refuge Like Bird Shelters Young

Open in the reader →

For the choirmaster: “Do Not Destroy.” Of David. A miktam, when he fled from Saul in the cave.

1Be gracious to me, God, be gracious to me, for in you my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge until calamities pass by.

2I call to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me.

3He will send from heaven and save me; he reproaches the one who pants after me. Selah. God will send his steadfast love and his faithfulness.

4My soul is in the midst of lions; I lie down among those who are aflame—sons of man, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and whose tongue is a sharp sword.

5Be exalted above the heavens, O God; let your glory be over all the earth.

6They prepared a net for my steps; my soul was bowed down; they dug a pit before me; they fell into the midst of it. Selah

7My heart is steadfast, O God; my heart is steadfast. I will sing and make melody.

8Awake, my glory! Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn.

9I will give thanks to you among the peoples, Lord; I will sing praise to you among the nations.

10For your steadfast love is great as far as the heavens, and your faithfulness as far as the clouds.

11Be exalted above the heavens, O God; let your glory be above all the earth.
