Psalms 86

A prayer of David.

1Incline your ear, O Yahweh, and answer me, for I am poor and needy.

2Guard my life, for I am faithful; save your servant, who trusts in you, O my God.

3Be gracious to me, Lord, for I call to you all day long.

4Gladden the soul of your servant, for to you, Lord, I lift up my soul.

5For you, Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call on you.

6Give ear, O Yahweh, to my prayer, and listen to the voice of my pleas for mercy.

7In the day of my distress I call to you, because you answer me.

8There is none like you among the gods, Lord, and there are no works like yours.

9All the nations that you have made will come and bow down before you, Lord, and they will honor your name.

10For you are great and do wonders; you alone are God.

11Teach me your way, Yahweh, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name.

12I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart, and I will glorify your name forever.

13For your steadfast love toward me is great, and you have delivered my life from the lowest depths of Sheol.

14God, arrogant men have risen against me, and a band of ruthless men has sought my life; they have not set you before them.

15But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.

16Turn to me and be gracious to me; give your strength to your servant, and save your maidservant’s son.

17Show me a sign for good, so that those who hate me may see and be put to shame, because you, O Yahweh, have helped me and comforted me.
