Testament of Benjamin 6

1The purpose of a good man is not in the hand of the spirit of Beliar's error, for the angel of peace guides his soul.

2He does not look upon perishable things with passion, nor does he gather wealth for pleasure.

3He does not delight in pleasure, [does not grieve his neighbor, does not fill himself with luxury, does not go astray by the wanderings of the eyes]. For the Lord is his portion.

4A good purpose does not accept glory or dishonor from people, and it knows no deceit or falsehood or strife or reviling. For the Lord dwells in him, and he lights up his soul, and he rejoices toward all at every time.

5The good mind does not have two tongues, of blessing and cursing, of insult and honor, of quietness and disturbance, of hypocrisy and truth, [of poverty and wealth], but rather has one sincere and pure disposition toward all.

6It has neither double sight nor double hearing; for in everything it does, or speaks, or sees, it knows that the Lord watches over his soul. And he cleanses his mind so as not to be condemned by men, likewise also by God. And in the same way the works of Beliar are twofold, and they have no singleness in them.
