Zechariah 12
Jerusalem Terror for Nations
Open in the reader →1An oracle, the word of Yahweh concerning Israel: the declaration of Yahweh, who stretches out the heavens, lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him.
Behold, I am about to make Jerusalem a cup of staggering to all the surrounding peoples; and it will also be against Judah in the siege against Jerusalem.
And on that day I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples. All who lift it will surely injure themselves, and all the nations of the earth will gather against her.
On that day, declares Yahweh, I will strike every horse with panic, and its rider with madness. But over the house of Judah I will keep my eyes open, and I will strike every horse of the peoples with blindness.
Then the clans of Judah will say in their hearts, ‘The inhabitants of Jerusalem are my strength in Yahweh of Armies, their God.’
On that day I will make the clans of Judah like a firepot among wood, and like a flaming torch among sheaves; and they will consume all the surrounding peoples, on the right and on the left. And Jerusalem will again dwell in her own place, in Jerusalem.
And Yahweh will save the tents of Judah first, so that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem may not be magnified over Judah.
On that day Yahweh will shield the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the one who stumbles among them on that day will be like David, and the house of David like God, like the angel of Yahweh before them.
And on that day I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.
And I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and pleas for mercy, and they will look to me, the one whom they pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only son, and weep bitterly for him as one weeps bitterly for a firstborn.
On that day the mourning in Jerusalem will become great, like the mourning of Hadad-rimmon in the plain of Megiddo.
And the land will mourn, each family by itself: the family of the house of David by itself, and their wives by themselves; the family of the house of Nathan by itself, and their wives by themselves.
the family of the house of Levi by itself, and their wives by themselves; the family of the Shimeites by itself, and their wives by themselves.
all the families that remain, family by family by themselves, and their wives by themselves.
