And their brothers, according to their generations, were nine hundred and fifty-six. All these men were heads of fathers’ houses in their fathers’ households.

And the gatekeepers were Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman, and their brothers; Shallum was the chief.
Until then they were at the king’s gate on the east; they were the gatekeepers for the camps of the sons of Levi.
And Shallum son of Kore, son of Ebiasaph, son of Korah, and his brothers from his father’s house, the Korahites, were over the work of the service, keepers of the thresholds of the tent; and their fathers had been over the camp of Yahweh, keepers of the entrance.
And Phinehas son of Eleazar had formerly been chief over them; Yahweh was with him.
Zechariah son of Meshelemiah was gatekeeper at the entrance to the tent of meeting.
All these who were chosen as gatekeepers at the thresholds were two hundred and twelve. They were enrolled by genealogy in their villages. David and Samuel the seer established them in their office of trust.
They and their sons were over the gates of the house of Yahweh, that is, the house of the tent, as guards.
The gatekeepers were at the four directions: east, west, north, and south.
And their brothers in their villages were to come in every seven days, from time to time, with these.
For these four mighty gatekeepers, who were Levites, were entrusted with the chambers and with the storehouses of the house of God.
They spent the night around the house of God, because the duty of guarding it was upon them, and they were in charge of opening it morning by morning.
Some of them were in charge of the vessels of service, for they brought them in by count and took them out by count.
And some of them were appointed over the vessels, over all the holy vessels, and over the fine flour, the wine, the oil, the frankincense, and the spices.
And some of the sons of the priests were compounders of the ointment of spices.

And some of the sons of the Kohathites, from among their brothers, were in charge of the bread of the arrangement, to prepare it Sabbath by Sabbath.
These were the singers, heads of fathers’ houses of the Levites, in the chambers, free from other duties, for they were occupied in the work day and night.
These were the heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites, according to their generations, heads. These lived in Jerusalem.
