1 Enoch 14

1This is the book of righteous words and the reproof of the Watchers, who are from of old, just as the Holy and Great One commanded in that vision.

2I saw in my sleep what I now speak with a tongue of flesh and with the breath of my mouth, which the Great One gave to human beings, so that they may speak with it and understand in the heart.

3Just as he created human beings and gave them understanding of the word of knowledge, so he created me and gave me the ability to reprove the Watchers, the children of heaven.

4I wrote your petition, and in my vision this is what appeared: your petition will not be granted to you throughout all the days of eternity. Judgment is complete against you, and it will not be granted to you.

5From now on you will not ascend into heaven for all eternity. On earth it has been declared that you will be bound throughout all the days of eternity.

6Before this, you have seen the destruction of your beloved children, and you will have no benefit from them; instead, they will fall before you by the sword.

7Your petition on their behalf will not be granted, nor on your own behalf. You yourselves, while weeping and making supplication, will not speak even a word from the book that I wrote.

8And a vision showed me thus: behold, in the vision the clouds were calling me, and the mist was calling me; and the course of the stars and the lightnings were driving me and urging me on, and in the vision the winds were making me fly, and carrying me off, and lifting me upward into heaven.

9I went in until I drew near to a wall built of hailstones. A tongue of fire surrounded it, and it began to frighten me.

10I entered the tongue of fire and approached a great house built of hailstones. The walls of that house were like hailstone paving slabs, and its floor was hail.

11Its ceiling was like the courses of the stars and lightning. Among them were cherubim of fire, and their heaven was water.

12Fire burned around the walls, and its doorway blazed with fire.

13I entered that house. It was hot like fire and cold like ice, and there was no delight of life within it. Fear covered me, and trembling seized me.

14As I shook and trembled, I fell on my face and saw in the vision.

15Look, another house was greater than that one. All its doorways stood open before me, and it was built with tongues of fire.

16In every respect it excelled in splendor, honor, and greatness, so that its splendor and greatness cannot be described to you.

17Its floor was fire; above it were lightning and the courses of the stars, and its ceiling was blazing fire.

18I looked and saw within it a lofty throne. Its appearance [was] like crystal, and its circle [was] like the shining sun. And [there was] the voice of the cherubim.

19And from beneath his throne rivers of burning fire came forth, and I could not look.

20And the Great Glory sat upon it, and his garment gleamed brighter than the sun and was whiter than all snow.

21And no one among the angels could enter and see the face of the Honored and Praised One, nor could anyone of flesh see him.

22Burning fire was around him, and a great fire stood before him. None of those around him could approach him; myriads upon myriads were before him, yet he himself desired no counsel.

23And the holiest of the holy ones, who draw near to him, do not go far away at night or withdraw from him.

24Until then I lay prostrate on my face, trembling. The Lord called to me with his own mouth and said, “Come here, Enoch, and hear my word.”

25And one of the holy ones came to me and raised me. He lifted me up and brought me as far as the door; but I bowed my face downward.
