1 Enoch 61

1In those days I saw that long cords were given to those angels. They took wings for themselves, flew, and went toward the north.

2I asked the angel, “Why have these taken cords and gone?” He said to me, “They have gone to measure.”

3The angel who was walking with me said to me, “These will bring the measures of the righteous and the bonds of the righteous to the righteous, so that they may lean upon the name of the Lord of Spirits for ever and ever.”

4And the chosen ones shall dwell with the chosen ones, and these are the measures that shall be given for faith, and they shall strengthen righteousness.

5“These measures will reveal all the hidden things in the depth of the earth: those who perished in the wilderness, those devoured by wild beasts and those devoured by the fish of the sea, so that they may return and find support on the day of the chosen one. Nothing perishes before the Lord of Spirits, and nothing can perish.”

6All those in the height of heaven received a command, and power, a voice and a light like fire.

7With that first voice they will bless, exalt and praise in wisdom; they will show wisdom in speech and in the spirit of life.

8The Lord of Spirits seated the chosen one upon the throne of glory. He will judge all the works of the holy ones in the height of heaven, and their works will be weighed in the balance.

9And when he lifts up his face to judge their hidden ways by the word of the name of the Lord of Spirits, and their conduct by the path of righteousness of the Lord of Spirits, then all of them will speak with one voice, and they will bless and praise and exalt and sanctify the name of the Lord of Spirits.

10He will call all the host of the heavens, all the holy ones on high, the host of God, the cherubim, seraphim and ophanim, all the angels of power, all the angels of dominions, the chosen, and the other host on dry land and upon water.

11On that day they will take up one voice and bless, praise and exalt in the spirit of faith, the spirit of wisdom, the spirit of patience, the spirit of mercy, the spirit of judgment and peace, and the spirit of goodness. All of them will say with one voice, “Blessed be the name of the Lord of Spirits, and may it be blessed for ever and ever.”

12All who do not sleep in the height of heaven will bless him. All the holy ones in heaven will bless him, and all the chosen who dwell in the garden of life. Every spirit of light that can bless, praise, exalt and sanctify your blessed name, and all flesh, beyond its strength, will praise and bless your name for ever and ever.

13For the Lord of Spirits is rich in mercy and slow to anger. All the work and every measure that he has made he revealed to the righteous and the chosen, in the name of the Lord of Spirits.
