Enoch Sees Earth Destroyed
Open in the reader →1And now, my son Methuselah, I will show you all my visions that I have seen before you; I will recount them.
I saw two visions before I took a wife, and one of them was not like the other: the first when I was learning the book, and the second before I took your mother—I saw a mighty vision; and concerning them I made supplication to the Lord.
I was lying down in the house of my grandfather Mahalalel, and I saw in a vision that the heaven was being cleansed and swept away, and it fell upon the earth.
And when it fell upon the earth, I saw the earth being swallowed into a great abyss, and mountains were suspended upon mountains, and hills sank down upon hills, and tall trees were cut off from their trunks and were thrown down and sank into the abyss.
And a word fell into my mouth because of it, and I lifted up a cry and said, “The earth is destroyed.”
And Malyal my grandfather lifted me up while I was lying beside him, and he said to me, “Why do you cry out like this, my son, and why do you lament like this?”
And I told him all the vision that I had seen, and he said to me, “Severe is the sight you have seen, my son, and mighty is the vision of your dream: it reveals all the hidden sin of the earth, and it is about to sink into the abyss and be destroyed with a great destruction.”
And now, my son, rise and make your petition to the Lord of glory, since you are faithful, that a remnant may remain upon the earth and that he may not wipe out the whole earth.
My son, from heaven all this will come upon the earth, and upon the earth there will be a great destruction.
And after this I arose and prayed and entreated and asked, and I wrote down my prayer for the generations of the world; and I showed you everything, my son Methuselah.
And when I went out below and saw the heaven, and the sun rising in the east, and the moon setting in the west, and a few stars, and the whole earth, and everything as He had known it in the beginning, then I blessed the Lord of judgment and extolled Him, because He had brought forth the sun from the windows of the east, and it ascended and rose on the face of the heaven, and set out and followed the path which He showed it.
