Didache 11

1Therefore, whoever comes and teaches you all these things that have been said before, receive him.

2But if the teacher himself turns and teaches another teaching so as to overthrow, do not listen to him; but if it is to add righteousness and knowledge of the Lord, receive him as the Lord.

3Concerning the apostles and prophets, according to the rule of the gospel, do thus.

4Let every apostle who comes to you be received as the Lord.

5But he shall not remain one day; but if there is need, also the next. But if he remains three days, he is a false prophet.

6And when the apostle departs, let him take nothing except bread until he finds lodging; but if he asks for money, he is a false prophet.

7And you shall not test or judge any prophet speaking in the Spirit; for every sin will be forgiven, but this sin will not be forgiven.

8Yet not everyone speaking in the Spirit is a prophet, but only if he has the ways of the Lord. Therefore, from their ways the false prophet and the prophet will be known.

9And every prophet who sets a table in the Spirit shall not eat from it; otherwise he is a false prophet.

10And every prophet teaching the truth, if he does not do what he teaches, is a false prophet.

11But every prophet who has been tested, genuine, doing for an earthly mystery of the church, yet not teaching others to do what he himself does, will not be judged by you; for he has his judgment with God. For in the same way the ancient prophets also did.

12But whoever says in the Spirit, “Give me money or something else,” you shall not listen to him. But if he tells you to give for others who are in need, let no one judge him.
