Genesis 6
God Judges Sin with Flood
Open in the reader →1And it happened, when man began to multiply on the face of the ground, and daughters were born to them,
the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were beautiful, and they took wives for themselves from any they chose.
Then Yahweh said, “My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is flesh; therefore his days will be one hundred and twenty years.”
The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.
And Yahweh saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the day.
And Yahweh regretted having made man on the earth, and he was pained in his heart.
So Yahweh said, “I will blot out man, whom I have created, from the face of the ground—from man to livestock to creeping things and to the birds of the heavens—for I regret that I have made them.”
But Noah found favor in the eyes of Yahweh.
These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God.
And Noah fathered three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
The earth was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.
And God saw the earth, and behold, it was corrupted, because all flesh had corrupted its way on the earth.
Then God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before me, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. And behold, I am about to destroy them with the earth.”
Make yourself an ark of gopher wood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch.
And this is how you shall make it: the length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits.
You shall make a roof for the ark, and finish it to within a cubit from above. And you shall set the ark’s door in its side. You shall make it with lower, second, and third levels.
And I—behold, I am bringing the flood of waters upon the earth to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life from under heaven. Everything that is on the earth will perish.
But I will establish my covenant with you, and you shall enter the ark—you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you.
And from every living thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of each into the ark to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female.
From the birds according to their kinds, and from the livestock according to their kinds, from every creeping thing of the ground according to its kind, two of each will come to you to keep them alive.
And you, take for yourself some of every kind of food that is edible, and gather it to yourself; and it shall be food for you and for them.
Thus Noah did; according to all that God commanded him, so he did.
