Leviticus 17
Sacrifices Brought to Tent Door
Open in the reader →1And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
Speak to Aaron and to his sons and to all the sons of Israel, and say to them, ‘This is the thing that Yahweh has commanded, saying,’
Any man from the house of Israel who slaughters an ox or a sheep or a goat in the camp, or who slaughters it outside the camp—
and has not brought it to the entrance of the tent of meeting to present it as an offering to Yahweh before the tabernacle of Yahweh, blood shall be imputed to that man: he has shed blood, and that man shall be cut off from among his people.
so that the sons of Israel may bring their sacrifices that they are sacrificing in the open field, and bring them to Yahweh at the entrance of the tent of meeting, to the priest, and sacrifice them as peace offerings to Yahweh.
And the priest shall throw the blood against the altar of Yahweh at the entrance of the tent of meeting, and shall burn the fat as a pleasing aroma to Yahweh.
They shall no longer sacrifice their sacrifices to the goat-demons, after which they prostitute themselves. This shall be a permanent statute for them throughout their generations.
And you shall say to them: Any man from the house of Israel, or from the sojourner who sojourns among them, who offers up a burnt offering or a sacrifice—
and does not bring it to the entrance of the tent of meeting to offer it to Yahweh, that man shall be cut off from his people.
And any man from the house of Israel, or from the sojourner who sojourns among them, who eats any blood—I will set my face against the person who eats the blood, and I will cut him off from among his people.
For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your lives, for it is the blood that makes atonement by the life.
Therefore I said to the sons of Israel, ‘No person among you shall eat blood, and the sojourner who sojourns among you shall not eat blood.’
And any man from the sons of Israel, or from the sojourner who sojourns among them, who hunts game—whether wild animal or bird—that may be eaten, shall pour out its blood and cover it with earth.
For the life of all flesh is its blood; in its life it is. So I said to the sons of Israel, ‘You shall not eat the blood of any flesh, for the life of all flesh is its blood.’ Everyone who eats it shall be cut off.
And every person who eats an animal found dead or one torn by beasts, whether native or sojourner, shall wash his clothes and bathe in water, and he shall be unclean until the evening; then he shall be clean.
But if he does not wash his clothes and does not bathe his body, then he shall bear his guilt.
