Micah 3

Leaders Exploit People Brutally

Open in the reader →

And I said, “Hear now, heads of Jacob and rulers of the house of Israel: is it not for you to know justice?”

you who hate good and love evil, who strip their skin from off them and their flesh from off their bones—

who eat the flesh of my people, strip their skin from off them, break their bones in pieces, and chop them up like what is in a pot, like meat within a cauldron.

Then they will cry out to Yahweh, but he will not answer them; he will hide his face from them at that time, because they made their deeds evil.

Thus says Yahweh concerning the prophets who lead my people astray, who bite with their teeth and cry, “Peace,” but against anyone who does not put something into their mouths, they consecrate war.

Therefore it will be night for you, without vision, and darkness for you, without divination; the sun will go down on the prophets, and the day will grow dark over them.

The seers will be put to shame, and the diviners will be disgraced; all of them will cover their lips, because there is no answer from God.

But as for me, I am filled with power, with the Spirit of Yahweh, and with justice and might, to declare to Jacob his transgression and to Israel his sin.

Hear this, please, heads of the house of Jacob and rulers of the house of Israel, who detest justice and make crooked all that is straight:

who builds Zion with bloodshed and Jerusalem with injustice.

Her leaders judge for a bribe, and her priests teach for a price, and her prophets practice divination for silver; yet they lean on Yahweh, saying, “Is not Yahweh in our midst? No disaster will come upon us.”

Therefore, because of you, Zion will be plowed like a field, and Jerusalem will become ruins, and the mountain of the house will become wooded heights.
