Psalms 27

Of David.

1Yahweh is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? Yahweh is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

2When evildoers came near me to devour my flesh, my adversaries and my enemies—they stumbled and fell.

3Though an army encamps against me, my heart will not fear; though war rises against me, even then I trust.

4One thing I have asked from Yahweh; this I will seek: that I may dwell in the house of Yahweh all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of Yahweh and to inquire in his temple.

5For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me in the secret place of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock.

6And now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me, and I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to Yahweh.

7Hear my voice, Yahweh, when I call; be gracious to me and answer me.

8My heart says to you, “Seek my face.” Your face, Yahweh, I seek.

9Do not hide your face from me; do not turn your servant away in anger. You have been my help. Do not cast me off, and do not forsake me, O God of my salvation.

10For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but Yahweh will take me in.

11Teach me your way, O Yahweh, and lead me on a level path because of my enemies.

12Do not give me over to the desire of my adversaries, for false witnesses have risen against me, breathing out violence.

13Unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of Yahweh in the land of the living.

14Wait for Yahweh; be strong, and let your heart take courage; and wait for Yahweh.
