Psalms 33

Praise the Faithful Creator

Open in the reader →

Shout for joy in Yahweh, you righteous; praise is fitting for the upright.

Give thanks to Yahweh with the lyre; make music to him with a ten-stringed harp.

Sing to him a new song; play skillfully with a joyful shout.

For the word of Yahweh is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness.

He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of Yahweh’s steadfast love.

By the word of Yahweh the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host.

He gathers the waters of the sea like a heap; he puts the depths in storehouses.

Let all the earth fear Yahweh; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.

For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.

Yahweh frustrates the counsel of the nations; he thwarts the plans of the peoples.

The counsel of Yahweh stands forever, the plans of his heart from generation to generation.

Blessed is the nation whose God is Yahweh, the people he has chosen as his inheritance.

From heaven Yahweh looks down; he sees all humanity.

From his dwelling place he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth.

the one who forms the hearts of them all, who understands all their deeds.

The king is not saved by a great army; a warrior is not delivered by great strength.

A horse is a false hope for deliverance, and despite its great strength it cannot rescue.

Behold, the eye of Yahweh is on those who fear him, on those who wait for his steadfast love,

to deliver their lives from death and to keep them alive in famine.

We wait for Yahweh; he is our help and our shield.

For our heart rejoices in him, because we have trusted in his holy name.

Let your steadfast love be upon us, O Yahweh, even as we hope in you.
