Psalms 53

For the choir director: according to Mahalath. A Maskil of David.

1The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt; they do detestable wrong; there is no one who does good.

2God looks down from heaven on humanity to see whether there is anyone who has understanding, who seeks God.

3All of them have turned aside; together they have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.

4Do not evildoers know—those who eat up my people as they eat bread? They do not call on God.

5There they were terrified, though there was nothing to fear; for God scattered the bones of the one encamping against you. You put them to shame, for God rejected them.

6Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! When God restores the fortunes of his people, let Jacob rejoice; let Israel be glad.
