Psalms 90

A prayer of Moses, the man of God.

1Lord, you have been a dwelling place for us from generation to generation.

2Before the mountains were born, and you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

3You return man to dust, and say, “Return, sons of man.”

4For a thousand years in your sight are like yesterday when it is past, or like a watch in the night.

5You sweep them away; they are like sleep. In the morning they are like grass that sprouts anew.

6In the morning it sprouts and grows anew; by evening it withers and dries up.

7For we are consumed by your anger, and by your wrath we are terrified.

8You have set our iniquities before you, our hidden sins in the light of your face.

9For all our days pass away in your wrath; we finish our years like a sigh.

10Our years amount to seventy, or eighty if we have the strength; yet their best is toil and trouble, for it quickly passes, and we fly away.

11Who knows the power of your anger and your wrath according to the fear due to you?

12Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

13Return, O Yahweh—how long? And have compassion on your servants.

14Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, and we will sing for joy and be glad all our days.

15Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, for as many years as we have seen trouble.

16Let your work appear to your servants, and your splendor upon their children.

17May the favor of the Lord our God be upon us. Establish for us the work of our hands; establish the work of our hands.
